Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle: Ideas for Your Old Sweaters

A Cozy Pillow Made from a Red SweaterWhen the time comes to say goodbye to your favorite old sweater, it may be hard to let go. Luckily, even if you can’t wear your sweater all over again, you don’t need to give it up! As a substitute, think about upcycling your sweater into something else with a fun do-it-yourself project. We’ve amassed a few basic, creative ways to repurpose old sweaters into things you can use all winter long!

Cozy mittens. Generating a pair of warm winter mittens out of an old sweater is simple and exhilarating! Just outline your hands in chalk around the bottom edge of a sweater, making the outline around 1/4 inch bigger than your hand. Afterward, cut out the pieces. Lastly, turn the pieces inside out and sew them together, leaving the bottom edge open. Flip your new mittens right side out and enjoy!

Decorative pillow. Nothing says comfy like a sweater-covered decorative pillow for your Randolph home! To make a pillow from an old sweater, you just need a pillow for reference and cut the sweater to size. After that, turn the pieces inside out and sew them together, leaving enough room on one side to place the pillow inside. Then stitch the opening shut and add buttons or other colorful embellishments.

Fingerless gloves. Another efficient way to repurpose an old sweater is to use it to craft fingerless gloves! Both lovely and functional, a pair of fingerless gloves can help you stay warm in snowy weather while allowing you to type or swipe on your phone. Firstly, start cutting the sleeves off the sweater to any height you want. After that, cut a hole for your thumbs. Cool fingerless gloves you can wear all season!

Boot toppers. One more styling option for upcycling an old sweater is to make some pretty boot toppers. Boot toppers may assist in keeping your legs warm and protect your legs from rough seams or zippers. To make boot toppers, simply cut the upper sleeve off an old sweater long enough to fit your calf and then fold the extra material over the top of your boot.

Headband. A headband is another basic and elegant craft you can make from an old sweater. You can customize your headband as thin or as wide as you want or produce more than one for more options. Focus on cutting a strip from the sweater in your desired width, then stitch the ends together to fit your head. Quick warmth and it’s sophisticated too!

Pocket hand warmers. One effective thing you can take with you to stay warm in cold weather is a pocket hand warmer. To be able to make one out of a sweater, cut several squares from a sweater arm or band, turn inside out, and stitch up the sides. Make a small opening and fill with dried beans, lentils, or pie weights. You may likewise use buckwheat and dried lavender for a lovely odor. In the end, close the opening, heat in the microwave, and slide into a pocket for toasty warm fingers!

Smartphone case. The likelihoods are that your personal tech gadgets don’t like being cold any more than you do! Protect them and repurpose an old sweater concurrently by crafting a simple smartphone or tablet case. Trace your tech device with chalk on the sweater, then turn inside out and sew, leaving one edge open. Place a button or other decoration for a lovely and functional result!

Sweater wreath. Upcycled sweaters can be fashionable and functional when you make a fun sweater wreath for your house. Using a foam or other wreath form, cut and sew your old sweater around the form to make an appealing wreath. Add some fashionable ribbon or other elegant decors, and you will have a wreath you can enjoy all season long – and beyond!
